Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve

This 600-acre sanctuary managed by Audubon Dallas offers a taste of the Texas Hill Country along the White Rock Escarpment, with natural communities including blackland prairie, juniper scrub, and oak woodland amid elevations rising to nearly 800 feet. You’ll find some nine miles of trail here, offering an incredible wildland escape just a stone’s throw from the heart of D-Town.

Trinity River Audubon Center

Dallas lays claim to the largest urban forest in the country in the form of the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest, a fabulous mosaic of bottomland forest, wetlands, prairie, and other vegetation communities. Here’s an unrivaled network of Audubon-managed lands to escape from the urban environment and become acquainted with the Dallas area’s older, wilder side.

White Rock Lake

More than 1,000 acres across, this historic reservoir on White Rock Creek forms one of Dallas’s most beloved outdoor playgrounds. Here you’ll find not only better than nine miles of multiuse trails, but wonderful opportunities for urban fishing, paddling, and sailing.

Spring Creek Forest Preserve

Situated close by in Garland, Texas, the Spring Creek Forest Preserve includes a precious swath of old-growth woodland, with some centuries-old bur, Shumard, and chinquapin oaks among the arboreal veterans. Strung through with blackland-prairie remnants as well, this refuge is another excellent place to recreate within shouting distance of Hotel Crescent Court.
